Your teaching tips

Be kind to yourself, challenge yourself and be proud of your achievement.

Favourite Exercise and reason why?

I love all abdominal work but my all time favourite is The 100. I still remember the first time I did this exercise in class, I thought I'd never be able to do it! I love to see the look of achievement on my clients faces once they've done this, especially those who once thought they would never manage.

tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience in the industry

I'm a mum of 3 and work in education, I have always been sporty but as I got older i realised i needed to look after my mind as well as my body, and find exercise that I could continue into my old age! I started pilates at My Body Studios about 5 years ago and have been a student of Emma Newham.

I have recently certified with Pilates Union and I am loving teaching. I am also training to be a yoga teacher and hope to teach children about the benefits of yoga and pilates, hopefully they'll also have a love of exercise for life, like me.

Do you have a motto or mission statement?

Look after body, mind and spirit and you won't go far wrong.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

Teaching pilates and yoga full time, somewhere hot and sunny, being the fittest and happiest I've ever been.

I have always loved being fit and active and have tried most sports, however after receiving several injuries through running I decided to give pilates a go. I immediately became hooked and just couldn't get enough of it. I then took up yoga and barre too. I loved the change to my body but also my mind and the way an hour of pilates could take away the stresses of the day. I decided as I was spending so much of my time at the studio, I might as well train to become a pilates teacher...best decision I've ever made!

I believe that exercise should be enjoyable and Pilates was the obvious choice for me. I love the fact it works the muscles hard, whilst being low impact and gentle on the joints. I like my classes to be friendly and welcoming, with everyone working to their own level and ability - with gentle encouragement thrown in too. I like to have fun with my classes and encourage feedback from clients to keep me on my toes too!
